GENERALIZED AXIOMATIC APPROACH TO THE PARETO SET NARROWING
By: Vladimir Noghin  (3563 reads)
Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: An axiomatic approach to solve the problem of narrowing the Pareto set based on some numerical information regarding preferences of the decision maker is considered. This approach has been developed by the author since 1983. It requires the acceptance of certain four axioms of "reasonable" behavior of the Decision Maker during the decision making process. It is assumed that in addition to the axioms some information regarding the Decision Maker’s preferences (the so-called "quanta" of information) is known. Using this information it is possible to reduce the Pareto set and thereby facilitate subsequent selection of solutions. We analyze a class of multicriteria choice problems for which this approach can be applied, as well as discuss of possible directions for its generalization.

EVALUATING EXPECTED EFFECTIVENESS OF INTERVAL ALTERNATIVES
By: Gennady Shepelev, Mikhail Sternin  (3266 reads)
Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: Earlier, in the framework of our previous papers, we introduced a criterion for comparing interval alternatives, which was called the assurance factor. It is based on the balance of chances that hypothesis on preference for one of the compared alternatives is true and the risks associated with the possible truth of the opposite hypothesis. The criterion is dimensionless that is not similar to other criteria used for this purpose. In this paper this criterion and its calculation method are proposed to use for analysis of the most important from a practical point of view problems of forecasting the expected effectiveness of the individual alternatives. Numerical procedures have been developed to calculate the values of the assurance factor in the case of arbitrary distribution on the analyzed interval alternative. Analytical expressions were also found for the uniform and triangular distributions. Comparison of the results was produced for evaluating the expected effectiveness of interval alternatives on the proposed criterion and on base of other evaluation criteria (mean value, Hurwicz criterion). The arguments presented in favor of adequacy of the proposed criterion for problems of forecasting both expected efficiency of interval alternatives and comparison of alternatives on preference. The possibility harmonizing of results comparing alternatives and evaluating their expected efficiency based on Hurwicz criterion and on the assurance factor was considered. Relation of the assurance factor with "pessimism - optimism" coefficient was received. On this basis we analyze the question concerning substantiation of the choice of Hurwicz criterion values. Using ordinal scales in the process of comparing alternatives and evaluating their expected effectiveness on base of the assurance factor is proposed.

GEOMETRIC APPROACH FOR GAUSSIAN-KERNEL BOLSTERED ERROR ESTIMATION...

Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: Classification and feature selection techniques are among the most commonly used mathematical approaches for analysis and interpretation of biological data. One of the important characteristics of any classifier is its classification error, which is important to take into consideration for accurate data analysis. The most popular error estimation techniques (resubstitution, bootstrapping, cross-validation) strikingly vary in performance. It is well known that more accurate classifiers such as bootstrapping, cross-validation are very slow, while heavily biased resubstitution is very fast. Recently, a new bolstered error estimation technique has been proposed that optimally combines speed and accuracy. It uses a Monte-Carlo? sampling based algorithm for classification for the general case, but for the case of linear classification, an analytical solution may be applied. In this paper we introduce geometric approach for bolstered error estimation and compare its performance with other error estimation algorithms. The results obtained show that geometric bolstered error estimation algorithms are very fast error estimation techniques characterized by accuracy comparable with LOO and having lower variance. These algorithms are useful for analyzing extremely large numbers of features and may find their applications in wide fields of - omics data analysis.

WIRELESS DATA TRANSMISSION OPTIONS IN ROTARY IN-DRILLING ALIGNMENT(R-IDA) ...
By: Zhenhua Wang et al.  (4559 reads)
Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: Conventional methods in multilateral drilling processes incorporate magnetometer-based surveying systems for determining the position and attitude of the bottomhole assembly (BHA). Magnetic surveying results in an increased weight of the BHA, higher cost due to shielding with bulky nonmagnetic collars and, more importantly, severely degraded performance due to unavoidable geomagnetic interferences such as metal and ore deposits in the vicinity. Micro-Electromechanical? Systems (MEMS) based Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) have been proposed as an alternative to magnetic surveying for multilateral drilling. Previous studies have shown theoretically and experimentally that a Kalman filter-based In-Drilling? Alignment (IDA) and its minimized version Rotary In-Drilling? Alignment (R-IDA) successfully limit the accumulated error growth associated with the INS, compared to the traditional zero-velocity update (ZUPT) alignment method. A high performance wireless MEMSbased INS has been proposed for R-IDA alignment, the implementation simplicity and high accuracy of which could be very useful in multilateral drilling processes. Furthermore, this paper discusses the concept of wireless data transmission within drill pipes downhole in comparison to other existing or emerging methods. It is shown that wireless telemetry inside the drill pipes is potentially capable of transmitting up to 250,000 bits per second (bits/sec) with high reliability and low power consumption, which makes a drill string based local network for realtime downhole monitoring and control applications feasible.

COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT WAVELET BASES IN THE CASE OF WAVELETS EXPANSIONS...

Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: In the paper wavelets expansions of random processes are studied. The matter is that although it is enough information for wavelets expansions of deterministic functions, for random processes such theory is weak and it should be developed. The paper investigates uniform convergence of wavelet expansions of Gaussian random processes. The convergence is obtained under simple general conditions on processes and wavelets which can be easily verified. Applications of the developed technique are shown for several wavelet bases. So, conditions of uniform convergence for Battle-Lemarie? wavelets and Meyer wavelets expansions of Gaussian random processes are presented. Another useful in various computational applications thing is the rate of convergence, especially if we are interested in the optimality of the stochastic approximation or the simulations. An explicit estimate of the rate of uniform convergence for Battle-Lemarie? wavelets and Meyer wavelets expansions of Gaussian random processes is obtained and compared.

Abstract: Mathematical models of N-finite (N  2) (especially for N= 216 typical for IBM-compatible personal computers) real, integer or Boolean valued computations are proposed in the frameworks of a finite-discrete mathematics. Such a mathematical model more precisely characterizes the contemporary practice of the computer use. Notions of an N-finite RAM (Random Access Machine), an N-finite RASP (Random Access Machine with Stored Program) and an N-finite Pascal program using integer operations modulo N with the reminders from the segment –N/2, N/2 – 1 + (N mod 2) are introduced. A formal N-finite quantifier logic language of modulo N arithmetic operations is defined. It allows formulating mathematical properties of such a non-recursive total Pascal function or predicate. It is proved that the problem of a formula identical truth in such a language containing arithmetic operations modulo N is a P-SPACE-complete one. So, the proof of a correctness of a non-recursive total Pascal program may be simplified with the use of the proposed language.

Abstract: We offer a definition for that elusive term, “order”. Order so much directs our perception, cognition and intellect that we should take a look at the infrastructure of how the human mind builds up its view of the world. Order is shown to be a combined statement about properties of things and how they are placed. The interdependence between “where” and “what” has been split for processing by the brain due to evolutionary pressure. Similarity is neurologically preferred above the properties of dissimilarities and is used as an intercultural tool of communication. We present a model that combines place and property attributes and integrates the dissimilarity properties of the present state of the world to the alternatives. We re-introduce the differences that we were instructed to ignore while we have learnt basic dexterity with numbers. We influence, and encourage dissolving, a deep-seated posthypnotic suggestion of culture: “The foreground, the similarities are important.”

Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: The problem of classification, clusterization or patterns recognition is one the manifestation of grouping information problem (GIP) in applied researching. It involves, beside mentioned above, the problem of recovering function, represented by empirical data (observations). Solutions of GIP largely depend of on the choice of ”math representatives” of the objects under investigation. It`s usual to use a collection of real valued characteristics – “feature vector”, in classification form of the GIP. Feature vector is in the essence a vector from Euclidean space n R . This choice is due to the highly advanced ties - and correspond techniques- in mathematical structure of such type. This technique includes, particularly, spectrum of linear operator (SVD), Moore-Penrose? inversion, orthogonal projectors operators for fundamental subspaces of the linear operator, Grouping operators and so on. Euclidean spaces m n R  of all matrixes of fixed dimension are natural spaces of “representatives” for a great many important applied fields of investigations: speech recognition, image processing and so on. In the paper SVD and Moore – Penrose technique for m n R  , proposed and developed in the earlier paper of the authors published in 2012 is used for formulating and solution of linear discrimination of two classes, represented by matrix learning samples.

Abstract: In this paper we introduce a new method for the binary encoding of metabolic pathways. Our method assigns a 5-bit word to the functional groups of the molecules or metabolic intermediates, sorting the functional groups by its redox potential. We illustrate our approach modelling two very well known metabolic pathways, glycolysis and the Krebs cycle, showing how sugars and other glycolytic molecules could be modeled as binary matrices as well as LED dot matrices. The method enables the design of 'metabolic hardware' which may be useful in the study of the optimization of metabolic pathways as well as in the area of molecular and natural computing.
