Abstract: E-learning means learning via electronic means and is therefore an all-embracing term covering learning via an electronic device. The "expectations" and "realities" for each of the delivery mechanisms within the electronic arena vary greatly for not just the learners themselves, but also the site providers. Because of this, each of these learning systems has vastly different design principles, which is not always understood by those unfamiliar with technology. What is appropriate for a CD-ROM off-line system is generally inappropriate for an online internet system. So when designing an e-learning system it is important to understand how the information is to be accessed by the learner. This paper will identify and suggest some ways to avoid e-learning's pitfalls and reap its rewards.

Abstract: The operation of technical processes requires increasingly advanced supervision and fault diagnostics to improve reliability and safety. This paper gives an introduction to the field of fault detection and diagnostics and has short methods classification. Growth of complexity and functional importance of inertial navigation systems leads to high losses at the equipment refusals. The paper is devoted to the INS diagnostics system development, allowing identifying the cause of malfunction. The practical realization of this system concerns a software package, performing a set of multidimensional information analysis. The project consists of three parts: subsystem for analyzing, subsystem for data collection and universal interface for open architecture realization. For a diagnostics improving in small analyzing samples new approaches based on pattern recognition algorithms voting and taking into account correlations between target and input parameters will be applied. The system now is at the development stage.

Abstract: Growth of complexity and functional importance of integrated navigation systems (INS) leads to high losses at the equipment refusals. The paper is devoted to the INS diagnosis system development, allowing identifying the cause of malfunction. The proposed solutions permit taking into account any changes in sensors dynamic and accuracy characteristics by means of the appropriate error models coefficients. Under actual conditions of INS operation, the determination of current values of the sensor models and estimation filter parameters rely on identification procedures. The results of full-scale experiments are given, which corroborate the expediency of INS error models parametric identification in bench test process.

By: Fish et al.  (3305 reads)
Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: This paper presents implementation of a low-power tracking CMOS image sensor based on biological models of attention. The presented imager allows tracking of up to N salient targets in the field of view. Employing "smart" image sensor architecture, where all image processing is implemented on the sensor focal plane, the proposed imager allows reduction of the amount of data transmitted from the sensor array to external processing units and thus provides real time operation. The imager operation and architecture are based on the models taken from biological systems, where data sensed by many millions of receptors should be transmitted and processed in real time. The imager architecture is optimized to achieve low-power dissipation both in acquisition and tracking modes of operation. The tracking concept is presented, the system architecture is shown and the circuits description is discussed.

Abstract: Every high resolution imaging system suffers from the bottleneck problem. This problem relates to the huge amount of data transmission from the sensor array to a digital signal processing (DSP) and to bottleneck in performance, caused by the requirement to process a large amount of information in parallel. The same problem exists in biological vision systems, where the information, sensed by many millions of receptors should be transmitted and processed in real time. Models, describing the bottleneck problem solutions in biological systems fall in the field of visual attention. This paper presents the bottleneck problem existing in imagers used for real time salient target tracking and proposes a simple solution by employing models of attention, found in biological systems. The bottleneck problem in imaging systems is presented, the existing models of visual attention are discussed and the architecture of the proposed imager is shown.

Abstract: A verification task of proving the equivalence of two descriptions of the same device is examined for the case, when one of the descriptions is partially defined. In this case, the verification task is reduced to checking out whether logical descriptions are equivalent on the domain of the incompletely defined one. Simulation-based approach to solving this task for different vector forms of description representations is proposed. Fast Boolean computations over Boolean and ternary vectors having big sizes underlie the offered methods. Keywords: design automation, verification, Boolean computations, simulation. GENERALIZATION BY COMPUTATION THROUGH MEMORY
By: Petro Gopych  (3425 reads)
Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: Usually, generalization is considered as a function of learning from a set of examples. In present work on the basis of recent neural network assembly memory model (NNAMM), a biologically plausible 'grandmother' model for vision, where each separate memory unit itself can generalize, has been proposed. For such a generalization by computation through memory, analytical formulae and numerical procedure are found to calculate exactly the perfectly learned memory unit's generalization ability. The model's memory has complex hierarchical structure, can be learned from one example by a one-step process, and may be considered as a semi-representational one. A simple binary neural network for bell-shaped tuning is described.

Keywords: generalization, 'grandmother' model for vision, neural network assembly memory model, one-step learning, learning from one example, neuron receptive field, bell-shaped tuning, semi-representation.
